steve's espresso
we're trying to break out of our lux rut (though that's not a bad rut to be in) so we're trying to sample some different spots. as comparison, tried coffee rush recently & while it was a very cool place & setup, the wife (the house coffee afficiado) wasn't keen on the coffee. she definitely liked steve's.
the place was very laid back & comfortable. being old & small kid laden, we didn't have laptops with us but we could see it's a very laptop friendly place as well (free wi-fi, outlets/power strips all over & single/double tables lining the walls near the outlets) if that matters to you. just a well conceived place in many ways.
to us, it's just about the coffee and we were happy with every drink we had. we will definitely go back.
also had a cranberry scone (forgot i read they were recommended on this thread) and the aussie two scone eaters with us were very impressed (dug it myself but i wouldn't know a good scone from a bad one).
sabuddy after my gym
saturday's after my gym are our big food exploration day. it's usually jen, stu, sid, cameron, heather, marina, sienna & me.
had our first outing at sabuddy today with the extended family. food was stellar. taboule & baba ghanoush for apps, 3 chicken shawarma plates (extra falafel balls), a falafel dinner & jerusalem meatballs. 3 mint iced teas, 3 turkish coffees & the chocolate mousse.
taboule, baba ghanoush, hummus, excellent crunchy falafel, mint iced teas & the chocolate mouse were universally loved. enjoyed everything else too though.
heather & jen absolutely couldn't get over the taboule. stuey, sid & i really dug it as well. the baba ghanoush was awesome. cameron was a big fan of that & the hummus. and though i thought it was a strange recommendation (from ch) & didn't really intend on ordering the chocolate mousse, it was awesome.
we will definitely be going back.
couple points. as indicated, they don't make their own baklava. was told by them that they buy it from haji baba. also saw on the board that extra pitas were free. not sure if it coincided with the price drop but we did get charged for a couple extra today (though of course we didn't mind).
one other question, the ladies were looking for the israeli salad (as mentioned by sb) but we didn't see it on the menu. hoping to find out on ch whether it lives under a different name or is an off-menu special?
